11. Don't open that door (Anderson / Baird)The cd was released in March 2003 through Jerkin' Crocus Records Ltd. in the UK under licence from Daniel J. Baird.
The material was all recorded between 1990-93, but is commercially released to the public for the first time.Don't expect a professional review. I believe no one should judge about something, that he/she can't make better (or at least as good as) the one(s) whose ''product'' he/she reviewes (Does this make sense?). So expect no ''this track reminds me on that band'' or ''some distortion on the guitar track of this or that song would have made it perfect'' or ''what a genius mixture of this and that style'' - but a review of the feelings this band and their music live gave / on cd gives to me. What else can I say?
''I'm fetched'' was the first thing I thought when I saw Dan Baird and his bandmates live on stage the first time (Hamburg, 17.August 2003 - Oh yes, I'm always a 'bit' late exploring the good stuff...). Anyway, I love music played straight, raw, fresh, powerful. Music ignoring rules and possible consequences. That's exactly what Dan Baird's (''Heart of the Georgia Satellites'') Band delivers. Their attitude on stage seemed to be: ''Take it or leave it'', excluding the arrogance some of those chart entering ''wanna-bees'' have. To me they were simply breathtaking. It was a pleasure to watch a drummer without getting the cramps (he knows what I'm talking about :o)), a bass player who plays the hardest stuff with a big smile on the face, a frontman who has something to say (and - in addition to that - was wearing a t-shirt which reminded me on my big hero and inspiration, the late Joe Strummer). Everyone on stage seemed to enjoy what he was doing - what more can one want? Even the videoing famous Kuno looked as happy as a little boy. What a relief there's still bands around who stay on the real and genuine road. Such bands make life worth living. After closer looks into almost every corner of the music business, I appreciate the (how I call them) ''real'' musicians even more. It's a true shame, such bands/musicians rarely receive the recognition and honors they deserve.
Of course I also took the chance to get Dan Baird's latest cd after the show. Backstage this band is a bunch of nice and 'down to the ground' people, by the way. Obviously my good feelings hit the right target. On the drive back home (200 km) me and my friends listened to the cd. Although it consists of old Georgia Satellites outtakes and sessions, some tracks from Dan's solo albums ''Love Songs for the Hearing Impaired'' (1992) and ''Buffalo Nickel'' (1996) plus the ''Born to Ride'' soundtrack piece ''Rock this Place'', the complete material came out a definate follow-up to the live show we just saw. No new tracks though (however, as its said, it's released for the 1st time), who cares? The cd goes ''Fasten seat belts and off we take''. It is a welcome ''punch in the face'' type of album. Far better than the (mainly) boring charts-crawling crap in these days. Fingers crossed Dan soon digs his drawers to conjure up some more of those treasures.
It leaves me yearning for a cd / tape / no matter what, of recent material from the four capable musicians who have been on stage in Hamburg. Live would be best, just plug in and play. That's it!~ Gabi Schwanke, Hannover / Germany

My friend Hanz also had his digcam at hand, but due to a bad leg he was a bit handicapped and only could take shots from the left hand side of the stage. All other pics have been taken by me.
